    This fundraiser will benefit

    Sanat

    from Arambol, Goa

Namastey! My name is Sanat Mehta and my age is 27. I’m posting this fundraising request to finance the first year of my 3-Year Post Grad Diploma in Actor's Training in Intercultural Practices from Intercultural Theatre Institute, Singapore. This education will help me with my vision to utilise theatre & dance as a tool of transformative practice, to create safe spaces for people like you, me, us and the cultures to express without inhibitions & stigmas attached to any emotion and promote self awareness to understand better about ourselves - bodily, mentally, emotionally, spiritually & energetically.

Here’s a little context on why I am fundraising for my education.

I have been training in performing arts practices for more than 8 years. Having healed my own depression through dance, and raising my emotional and mental awareness through theatre, I realised the power of these expression to REALLY transform oneself! The art practices connects us deeply to our internal rhythm, and makes us understand & listen to our body more than our brain, or say - balances our mind-body connection. Enquiring deep into that understanding, experiencing & gaining the insights through my own practices, I have been exploring, learning and educating others to learn different performing art practices, healing practices, and spiritually rich ancient as well as modern mind-body practices to transform the lives and have a better understanding of the Self.

Since the vision of the Institute aligns with my vision of inclusion of multi cultures and resolving the conflicts through a clear understanding about the cultural differences through the use of performing arts, I really do not want to miss this opportunity to study at Intercultural Theatre Institute (Singapore) This fundraising will really support me in carrying further my research practices through this degree and bring the knowledge back to you, to your family as well as mine, and for the coming generations so that we have the access to the right knowledge of nature. Of our very own true nature, and make use of the transformational practices of movement and theatre.

What I do for a living:

Currently, I have been facilitating workshops/courses to guide people through Movement Meditation, which is based on our body and movement awareness and the second program that I have been teaching is a week long course on 'Foundations of Acting: Through Self Awareness', in Goa (India).

The earnings are not so great, as whatever survival amount I am earning, I am utilising those funds for my living & paying my rental/food expenses in Goa and to keep my learnings alive through my teachers here who have also been very supportive in providing me the education in nominal costs. I have been just surviving since the past couple of years after leaving my media job to pursue theatre & dance/movement arts, when I realised the need to focus on my body & emotions after my lower back injury which I later healed myself by applying the knowledge with right practices (It took me 3 years though).

With my background in journalism and media studies, I, from 2017-2019, was producing videos for a social justice citizen journalism platform - Youth Ki Awaaz. I documented several human-interest stories while travelling across different states in India. From living with the Adivasi Community in North-East India, to covering the stories of Bonded Labourers working in brick kiln factories of South India, I witnessed and captured the harsh reality through the lenses of my heart which made me more sensitive and empathetic as a performer too. I witnessed the reality that we often don't come across in our news channels and while living in the cities. Please check some of my video stories here on my Youtube Channel.

What Else Do I Do?

I am practicing movement, dance & theatre exploration - Contemporary Dance, Movement Floorwork & Acro Flow, Contact Improvisation, Butoh, Vipassana Meditation, Zen Meditation, certain Yogic and Tibetan Buddhist Practices for better awareness. I've also been reading, studying psychology, philosophy and carrying my spiritual & philosophical enquiries along the path.

What motivates me is to find the real gem within us, to explore our possibilities and the potential that we carry in this human mind & body.

I am seeking the knowledge right now which I consider is the real gold for me, not the gold itself. To achieve my target of fundraising, I'd need your love & support for my cause. And I'd like to request you to Donate generously so that it can help me with earning the right knowledge which I'd love to share with you all soon. Please leave your email id here or drop me an email on contactsanatmehta@gmail.com to receive regular updates about my classes.

Detailed Breakdown of Expenses:

Although the course is 3-Year long, I'm hopeful that the institute will be able to provide me a scholarship, atleast for my tuition fee from the 2nd year as the institute is not offering any scholarship in the first year of academics.

What is a challenge for me? (Current Financial Situation)

Developing Countries like India, the class disparity here, and the fluctuations & inequality in the finances has certainly affected the growth of many talents across the globe. I come from a family background where my single parent, my mother, raised me up with the support from her family (my maternal grandparents - my Nana and Nani) after her separation with my father and his family. This dispute between my parents has also affected my life on emotional, mental, societal & financial aspects.

Post lockdown, the art industry in india - street & stage artists both have been affected in earning a livelihood through their art. Many artists have lost their job and are still looking for opportunities of work struggling with a cultural shift in an ever-struggling art economy. Although I was lucky enough to have survived that tough time of corona phase & I managed to keep my arts practices alive even after facing many financial challenges.

My single parent, my mother, also lost her job during the covid times and has not been earning since more than an year. Monetarily, she has also been left with very limited savings which is not enough to fund neither the Institute's tuition fee nor the living expenses in the Expensive Country of Singapore.

Loan is an option, but it is a last option for me since the theatre art economy is so down right now, being in debt is certainly not a right decision to make.

Fundraising is my best hope to enroll in the PG Diploma in Acting at the Intercultural Theatre Institute, Singapore. Please help me Reach The Goal! I know that you will. You have the power to do that! ❤
