I,Mrinal Gupta Sahu, am pursuing M.A(Economics) from IGNOU . My father Samir Kumar Sahu recently got diagnosed with a heart complication that needed to be operated with immediate effect. Initially we contacted our nearest hospitals for remedies but they conveyed us that he needs an urgent medical attention at a specialty hospital since his heart valve was not opening fully(Aortic Stenosis) and tendency of decreased blood flow was increasing by leaps and bounds.
So finally for better treatment,we moved to New Delhi and concerns raised by local hospitals were found to be true.But meanwhile there arose a new problem as my father Samir Kumar Sahu had already been suffering from "Liver Cirrhosis'' and it had damaged almost 90% of his liver which put an obstacle on any operation to be operated on him.
We ran from pillar to post,be it AIIMS,Fortis,MAX OR Medanta, but finally we settled for medanta as it has latest 'Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement[TAVR]' technology that would put little risk to his life despite suffering from 'liver cirrhosis'.But the problem of financial constraint was always there and we always insisted and preferred government hospitals like AIIMS but there too,doctors advised us that TAVR technology is not available in AIIMS and since this is the only technology that puts minimum risk to his life, so we should better go ahead with Medanta.
After pondering over a fortnight, my family gathered courage to opt for Medanta but here starts our real problem. At the outset,we were given an estimate of Rs.16 lac which was to cover the entire expenditure till discharge date and were also conveyed that this estimate is the upper limit and often entire expenditure is around Rs.14/15 lac. I was taken awe when I visited billing section on discharge date as the final bill read Rs.17,96983.16.This was above upper limit of Rs.16 lac as conveyed by them earlier and that too over Rs 2 lac which was out of my family's capacity to arrange as we already had sought help from all quarters and our options to arrange for this inflated bill was exhausted.
We begged Medanta to show some magnanimity but all our prayers fell on deaf ears of Medanta Administration and they are not allowing discharge of my father and he has been held hostage by Medanta Administration since 8th of March owing to our inability to pay the inflated billing amount.
Finding no other option and to secure the earliest release of my father I,Mrinal,and my family, request you all to contribute as little as you can to ensure the earliest release of my father by paying the outstanding amount Rs.4 lac 12 thousands.
