We have all received support and guidance from our parents in our childhood which is the reason we are able to read this message and flourish in our lives.
Research around the world has identified parental participation as one of the key levers for improving the learning of children. A study by PISA suggests that caregivers spending 3 hours with the child is likely to improve children’s learning - which shows the pivotal role parents can play in a child's education. India’s Government schools generally cater to its marginalized and deprived sections of the society, often living in slums and working as daily wage earners. Contributing to their child’s education is often a leap for parents in these communities - requiring them to transcend the limitations of their own education (or lack thereof) as well as other socio-economic constraints. As such, they need active support to guide them towards effectively contributing to their child’s learning at various levels.

Our NGO Saajha believes in the dignity and potential of all parents and builds capabilities of parents to enable greater parental participation towards learning of children in government schools. Our work impacts 1,000+ schools in Delhi, 300+ schools in Karnataka. We recently expanded our interventions in Maharashtra and Jharkhand.
In Karnataka, our work is focused on:
1) Conducting workshops for the parents(whose children are studying in government schools) to support them in building their capacity
2) Provide an opportunity to be a part of assessing their child's learning and also increase their bond with the teachers to improve their child's behaviour/learning curve.
3) Provide call-based support to parents to address their queries related to education.
4) Organize community events in an endeavour to build a network of parents to help each other in contributing to their child’s education.
To regularly conduct these workshops and to empower parents as mentioned above, we need a fund of 6,00,000. These funds are used by Saajha NGO for Bangalore project based in Anekal Taluk. Your contribution will help parents take greater ownership of their child’s education, which will go a long way in transforming the educational landscape of the state.
