I am Roshan Gote, a postgraduate student from IIT- Guwahati. I am nearing the end of my course but have not been able to repay a part of the loan I took from the Institute to finish my graduation. As a first generation learner from a family which is heavily dependent on seasonal agriculture, it has always been difficult to acquire the funds to pay for my future education. It is doubly difficult in the present day because my family lost a year in agriculture due to the drought in Vidarbha region and the pandemic kept me from finding employment elsewhere.
But I have always been determined to continue my education, no matter what comes. Hence I took the Brotherhood fund from IIT-Guwahati. The loan they provided could be used for funding one's course or for medical emergencies. But one has to repay this loan within the duration of one's course. In the situation that one fails to repay their loan their degree is withheld. This has put me in a great dilemma because there are only 2 weeks left for the completion of the academic year and I am still not able to acquire the money for the repayment. After much discussion with my friends, I decided to start this fundraiser.
Why fund me?
I have been an active member of my community in Umbarda Bazar village in Maharashtra. I have used the knowledge I have acquired throughout my graduation years to assist several youngsters from my village, boys and girls alike, in grooming them for pursuing higher education. I have also started a small library in my house, where students from the village can issue books from. Here,I also double up as a teacher to high school students, who wish to learn from me. I have always believed in giving back something to my community, in whatever ways I can.
I believe this approach of mine also aided my selection for a Fellowship at Drishtee Foundation. I am soon to be working with communities in and around the Nagpur area. But in order to finalise my selection, I would need to produce my degree certificate. Hence the repayment of the loan is absolutely urgent for me.
I would be immensely grateful if you could assist me through this process. No amount is small or big. Please contribute, if you believe in my intentions and wish to see me go places and be an inspiration for people from my community.
The amount that needs to be raised is Rs 50,000.
