Hello, I am Rohit Chakma from Pecharthal, Tripura, India. My journey from the start is not so memorable until now as of others. I belong to Schedule Tribe and we consist of four family members my father, mother, younger sister and me.
I left home when after passing out class 7 from my state to Bihar for my studies. My parents sent to Bihar to study in a school called Alice Project Universal Education, Bihar, Bodhgaya. The school takes children belonging to poor families from Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura every year to support their studies free of cost. I did my matriculation and came back home and did my Higher Secondary, and Graduation at Assam (BTAD). My parents had to face numerous problems for my studies and supported me in all the situation until now.
Luckily I got selected in Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Guwahati Campus and currently pursuing my Master degree in Labour studies and social protection. As i belong to BPL family, I am given some relaxation in the admission and fess payment, However the scholarship amount doesn't cover all the expenditure of my studies. My fees include Hostel fee (INR 15000), Dinning Hall Charge (INR 16000) and Tution fee (INR 12000) per semester. Before no any ST, SC and OBC categories students had to pay any above mentioned fee until 2017-18, The TISS administration have cancelled the fee waiver for all the categories.
I belonged to 2019-21 batch who will be graduating next year 2021 without the fee waiver of hostel and dinning hall charges amounting to RS 31,000 per semester. Until now there was hope of graduating but it feels like i wont be able to graduate also.
For people like us RS 31000 is a very big amount which we cant even dream of and it is very far from my father annual income. The burden slightly goes down by student aid but does not reduce it at all. Even until today I did not go to see my results of 1st and 2sem because of non payment of fees. If I don't pay the remaining dues I won't be able to get my degree and marksheet as it will remained withheld which means my career get full stop.
If you guys feel like I deserved to get the passing certificate and you believe in social upliftment, this is the right chance to make social change by giving me access to higher education and live a dignified life.
Having exhausted all means, i request everyone to come together to help me to graduate and change my destiny. Every money you donate will be used for clearing my remaining dues and everyone will be kept updated about the fundraiser will full transparency.
