MILLION MIYAWAKI PROJECT
We are a citizens collective dedicated to improving quality of life in our cities, starting with addressing air pollution. Our first Goal towards improving air quality is to Plant 1 million trees in Delhi NCR by 2027, and ensure they grow to their full adult height by 2029!
That's 2 years as opposed to 20 years for a sapling to become a tree!
This is possible due to a globally adopted scientific technique developed by Professor Akira Miyawaki from Japan in the 1980s known as the Miyawaki Afforestation Technique.
We believe : Through this technique we can gain some real results in our fight against pollution.
1. Trees planted will be fully grown in 2 years and will start to absorb CO2 and improve AQI levels.
2. We don’t need much space: Miyawaki Technique requires only a minimum space of 2,000 square feet for a ‘forest’ of 600 trees.
3. These forest like plantations require maintenance of only 2 years, post that they become self reliant. With proper use of this technique, we can ensure survival of at least 95% of the trees.
4. All local and indigenous varieties of trees are being used. And no artificial nutrients.
This project has already seen some success in Delhi NCR.
Through collaborative efforts between Million Miyawaki Foundation, Rise Foundation (Miyawaki Experts based in Delhi), Many Educational institutions, Corporations, Individuals and Civil Society groups; We have completed planting of over 11,000 such trees across 19 plantations primarily in government schools since August 2023.
The Future
Once successful in Delhi NCR we hope to apply the same technique across 9 more Indian cities with 1 million new trees each planted, by 2030, which will start absorbing CO2 in the air in those cities from 2033.
Will you help us plant the next 10,000 trees?
We need your support to raise funds for 20 more plantations; so that we can start the planting in July 2024.
