On New Year's Day 2025, at approximately 3 PM, tragedy struck one of India's most unique communities. Tandi Village, famously known as the 'Tree House Village of India', located in the picturesque Jibhi Valley of Himachal Pradesh, was forever changed. A devastating fire, which began in a fodder shed and spread rapidly through our closely-built traditional homes, has reduced our entire village to ashes. This serene mountain hamlet in Jibhi Valley, celebrated for its distinctive tree houses and traditional architecture that drew visitors from across the globe, now stands in ruins.

Located in the heart of Jibhi Valley, known for its pristine streams and dense pine forests, our village was more than just a collection of homes—it was a living museum of sustainable mountain architecture and cultural heritage. Despite the brave efforts of our villagers and fire teams from Banjar, Largi, and Kullu, the intense flames—fueled by stored winter firewood and fodder—consumed our entire community.

The devastation is total and heartbreaking:
- Every family home and our famous tree houses have been destroyed
- All winter supplies, including food and fodder for livestock, are gone
- The sacred 'Kothi' (store) of our local deity Gadpati Sheshnag, containing precious ornaments and centuries-old religious artifacts, has been lost
- Families' lifetime savings, documents, and irreplaceable heirlooms have been reduced to ashes
- All basic infrastructure and utilities have been severely damaged
- Our unique tourist accommodations, which provided livelihoods to many families, are completely destroyed

While we are grateful that there was no loss of human life or livestock, our community faces an unprecedented crisis. These families, who have lost everything in the harsh winter months, are currently sheltering in temporary arrangements. The traditional Kath-Kuni architecture of our homes—beautiful wooden structures that have housed generations—and our iconic tree houses represented not just our heritage but our families' entire life savings and livelihoods. With damages estimated at Rs 10 crore (100 million rupees), the path to recovery seems overwhelming.

Your Support Can Help Us:
- Provide immediate relief including food, blankets, and winter essentials to all displaced families
- Secure proper temporary housing solutions as we face the peak winter months
- Begin the massive task of rebuilding homes and restoring our unique tree house heritage
- Restore essential utilities and basic services
- Help preserve our traditional Kath-Kuni architectural heritage while incorporating modern safety measures
- Support families in recovering vital documents and establishing basic necessities
- Rebuild community spaces and restore our village's social fabric
- Revive the tourist infrastructure that supported many local livelihoods

The district administration is working tirelessly, but the scale of devastation requires support far beyond local resources. This tragedy has highlighted the urgent need for better fire safety infrastructure in our remote mountain villages of Jibhi Valley, but right now, our immediate focus must be on helping these families survive the winter and rebuild their lives.

Every contribution, no matter the size, will directly impact our community's recovery. Your support won't just rebuild homes—it will restore hope and help preserve one of India's most unique mountain communities, ensuring that future generations can experience the magic of the Tree House Village once again.

Together, we can help Tandi Village rise from the ashes. Please donate and share this message widely—every minute counts for our community members who have lost everything in the bitter winter cold of Jibhi Valley.
