On New Year's Day 2025, at approximately 3 PM, tragedy struck one of India's most unique communities. Tandi Village, famously known as the 'Tree House Village of India', located in the picturesque Jibhi Valley of Himachal Pradesh, was forever changed. A devastating fire, which began in a fodder shed and spread rapidly through our closely-built traditional homes, has reduced our entire village to ashes. Located in the heart of Jibhi Valley, known for its pristine streams and dense pine forests, our village was more than just a collection of homes—it was a living museum of sustainable mountain architecture and cultural heritage. Despite the brave efforts of our villagers and fire teams from Banjar, Largi, and Kullu, the intense flames—fueled by stored winter firewood and fodder—consumed our entire community.
The devastation is total and heartbreaking:
- Every family home and our famous tree houses have been destroyed
- All winter supplies, including food and fodder for livestock, are gone
- The sacred 'Kothi' (store) of our local deity Gadpati Sheshnag, containing precious ornaments and centuries-old religious artifacts, has been lost
