If you are out at night in Delhi , we hope you are wrapped up in a layer of warm clothes, because it’s starting to get cold out there right now. In the coming weeks, when it will get really cold, some unfortunate people might die on the roads. They likely will not have any woolen clothes on their body as they struggle through the chilly and windy nights out in the open.
Government statistics reveal that winters are the second major reason for deaths in India, after lightning. Statistics show that till 2018, 826 people died every year due to harsh winters in Delhi. Clearly, hundreds of winter deaths are considered “normal”, and there is hardly any effort to find the exact reason behind them.
Just imagine what a small child or an old woman has to face in winter nights when they have hardly even full-sized thin clothings to cover their bodies in wide open. No heaters, no shelter, no sweaters, no blankets. Those who cannot face, die.
Lets prevent this loss. What we give, comes back to us. Lets help our brothers and sisters. All humans are our family members. How can we enjoy the warmth of heaters and jackets when our own family is shivering to death?
The campaign collects urban under-utilized woolens, clothes, and other basics from the cities, and after a rigorous process of value addition, reaches rural India as ‘winter kits’. Each winter kit – comprising of clothes, woolens, sujnis/blankets, etc. is meant for one family’s needs.
