This is about the request of sponsorship via crowd funding to participate in the cycling event ‘London Edinburg London – LEL 2022’.
About me:
I am Ranveer Poonian from Sujangarh Churu, Rajasthan, an ultra Distance Cyclist.
About the event:
London–Edinburgh–London (LEL) is a randonneur bicycle event of approximately 1,500 kilometres over an out-and-back course between the capital cities London (England) and Edinburgh (Scotland). It has been described as a hardest cycling event for a contender in the United Kingdom. The event is being held every four years since 1989. The 9th edition of LEL takes place from 08th Aug 2022 to 12th August 2022. The route begins from the flatter terrain in Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire to a hillier terrain further north in the Pennines and Scotland's Southern Uplands. The route is mostly on quieter roads and lanes. The participants must cover this distance self-supported under extreme weather conditions. Each rider will be given a cutoff time of 125 Hours which includes break for food, sleep and refreshments.I will have to ride day and night with minimum rest (only 2-3 hours off-saddle time/sleep). The cumulative elevation gain during the course is 45000 feet.
LEL 2013 witnessed the debut participation of Indians and only one managed to complete the event within the cutoff time. I will be one among few Indians who are planning to take part this time. With my current experience I am confident that I will complete the event before the given cutoff time.
Why I am doing this and my mission :
This is my humble contribution to popularize the sport of cycling in our country and to set an example for the upcoming generation to take up health and fitness as a lifestyle for a stronger, better and healthier India and to spread my experience and knowledge free of charge/ minimal cost basis as a social contribution to promote cycling in particular and endurance sport among the youth of India in schools, colleges and sports clubs. As Swami Vivekananda remarked – To make India a superpower, every locality must have a gymnasium instead of place of worship.
This is my humble patriotic endeavour to spread the inspiration of a healthy fitness based lifestyle which would take our country to a higher plane through a healthy strong youth!
Your contribution would mean a lot to me. I will be ever grateful for your support in helping me take the tricolour across the finish line of the coveted race.
Achievements in endurance sports:
I participate in many ultra cycling event in India.
Cycled Highest road in country Manali – Leh– Khardungla in 8 days
Tour the Kalinga (1300 Kms)
Longewala to India Gate ( 1009 kms )
900 KM SOLO RIDE IN 2 DAYS 8 HOURS
Accomplished Mountaineer With Basic Course from NIMAS ( Arunachal Pardesh)
I practice for more then 20000 Kms for this LEL.
Budget for LEL :
My planned dates for the travel are from 31 Jul 2022 to 17 th Aug 2022, which gives me a good head start to get adapted to the weather and conditions in United Kingdom. The expenses for LEL participation would be over Rs 5 lakhs. I am spending Rs 2 Lakhs from own savings and expect to raise Rs 3 Lakhs from crowd funding campaign. I would request you to sponsor a few km of the LEL race route as I am going to be using my personal savings to compete.
Other expenses such as Training, bicycle maintenance has to be taken care. I would be grateful if I get a helping hand for this huge event in my cycling dreams. I will be glad to finish the event with the help of you all.
Sincere Regards
Ranveer
