Rani 47 years old is the wife of Sakthivel. She hails from a very poor background and Sakthivel is an Auto driver. Sakthivel is of very little help to the family as he is an alcoholic.

In the month of August 2019 she developed a swelling in the Thyroid region. On examination, she was advised to undergo Right Hemithyroidectomy (procedure is typically performed for suspicious thyroid nodules) due to Adenomatous goiter (tumor formation due to the overgrowth of the cells of the thyroid tissue). Surgery (Right Hemithyroidectomy) was carried out on the 1st of November 2019. Again on 16th November she underwent a surgery for completion thyroidectomy (The surgical removal of the contralateral lobe with a second operation in patients who have undergone a lobectomy during the first operation that revealed thyroid malignancy).
The family in spite of their poor economic situation had managed to raise Rs. 75,000/- (Seventy five thousand Rupees) through loans and have completed these 2 surgeries. The family has a very challenging situation in taking care of Rani as well as repaying the loans taken towards the surgery.

Based on the Histopathology Report (Biopsy) and Rani’s family history of Throat Cancer she has to undergo i-131 Therapy (Radioactive Iodine i-131 - is a nuclear medicine treatment for an overactive thyroid, a condition called hyperthyroidism, and also may be used to treat thyroid cancer). Rani has been advised to undergo 2 such therapies. The total cost estimated towards these therapies is Rs. 50,000/- (Fifty thousand rupees).
