I consider my undying passion for the maternal and child health to be inherent within myself and believe it to be ignited as a result of being “born with the mother’s boon, that is breast milk, rather than a silver spoon, in the mouth”. I'm on a crusade to bring back glory to the practice of breastfeeding by supporting, promoting and protecting it, through a multi- pronged approach that includes establishing a forum of healthcare professionals to discuss the issue, directly interacting with new mothers and their families through lactation counseling and conducting community awareness programs.

So what is this event about?
It is a unique, one of a kind event – that opens with a star-studded gala evening – talking about the role of media in women's health issues – ethics and implications inviting a cross-section of social activists, directors,  and critics. This is followed by an awards ceremony honouring stellar work in the field of maternal and child health in India, followed by a screening of the critically acclaimed ground-breaking awareness movie “Tigers”. Day 2 brings together India’s brightest – a cross-section of midwives, state policymakers, government officials, obstetricians, human rights and maternal health activists, grassroots NGOs, and Perinatal mental health experts to talk about various issues during birth and breastfeeding – intended to catalyze action, empower families in participatory decision making and care provider accountability. It also aims to break the taboo and stigma around breastfeeding and continue the public debate around breastfeeding and how policies and government/corporates can participate in improving breastfeeding duration.

I have overcome many hurdles and obstacles in my preparations to host this conference. I'm still looking for financial sponsorship as I have learnt the hard way that organizations and institutions in the private sector are not keen on supporting individuals, especially a woman, taking up a task of this magnitude. However, I'm in talk with few companies and organizations. Due to time constraints and also to be on a safer side I have created this fundraiser in addition to my efforts in looking out for other sponsors. Your kind contribution will help me pursue my passion and in making this event a huge success. Thanks in advance.
