My parents continued to provide her provisions and her share of salary and more, but things came to a head when she tested COVID+ towards June-end. And then her elder daughter Priyanka, who was cooped up with her in their tiny home in Bengaluru’s Vidyaranyapura.
While Rajamma recovered in due time, Priyanka fought for her life under the ventilator for a month. As she showed signs of recovery, came the news that Rajamma’s younger daughter Anupriya, who was staying with her relatives in Madikere, contracted the novel Coronavirus too.
Rajamma and her daughters are safe now but their battles are far from over. Rajamma had borrowed 1 lakh from her landlord on 36% interest, and an additional Rs50,000 from her brother to meet the costs of treatment. Now she needs to pay it all back even as she struggles to find a new job.
So far, my parents have paid for their rent, ration, a portion of their medical expenses, Wifi connection, and bus pass. We’ve also arranged a laptop and a smartphone for their daughters to take their online classes with the help of our friends.
But now we need your help to raise RS1,35,000 (as we have raised 15K already) and rescue Rajamma from this crippling debt.
Each contribution is important!
