With the second wave ravaging the country, we are witnessing its harrowing impact on the population. The Covid-19 crisis has afflicted devastation on the routines of people and have endangered normal life. To make this hopeless situation bearable, AIQA has initiated a fundraiser, seeking to raise funds for the members of our queer community affected by this second wave of the pandemic. Members of the LGBTQIA+ community has been facing unique challenges due to the ongoing crisis. Even as the normal healthcare frameworks have made it difficult to access proper medical care for the majority population, the healthcare needs (including mental health) of the Queer community has been sidelined to a great extent. Many have been struggling with financial issues as well as hostile environments at home/living space with a probable possibility of being threatened with harm or violence, which contributes to the deteriorating mental and physical health issues of the members.

As noted rightly by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, LGBTQIA+ people are more vulnerable to Covid 19. They may not even be able to access medical help they need due to discrimination and stigma. Entire section including the Hijra and Kinnar communities have lost their income due to the lockdown.
As distressing as the current situation is, we hope that fellow individuals will be able to lend an empathetic hand to support those who have suffered due to the pandemic. Your contribution will be used to provide safety and sustenance to the community members. Believing in the strength of our community, we envision this fundraiser to help as many members as possible.
