As we sit in our homes worried about the safety and well being of our loved ones, Shanta from a village in rural Maharashtra is worried about the daily wage workers who have no income, no food.
Shanta says, “I know the pain of going to bed hungry and I want to ensure no one in my community ever has to go hungry”.
Today Swayam Shikshan Prayog’s frontline leaders in over fifty villages, again need your help in supporting families, Over the last year, Shanta worked to increase community preparedness to tackle COVID.
With this lockdown 2.0, we at Hunger Collective have come together with Swayam Shikshan Prayog to alleviate rising food insecurity that economic lockdown brings with it.
Formally launched in 1998, Swayam Shikshan Prayog has a mission to promote inclusive, sustainable community development by empowering women at the grassroots in under-served areas across India. SSP repositions women to take on new roles as decision makers in agriculture, enterprise and local governance to improve access to health, basic services and productive resources.
Hunger Collective and SSP aim to reach the most vulnerable households in each village through Sakhis women leaders who are risking their lives while building resilience and keep safe at the ensure their health and well being and follow COVID-19 mantras.
Our thanks to our supporters and advisors such as Vijaya Devi, Zia Hajeebhoy, Deepa and Milind Soman, Sahaana and Dr. Anil Menon among others, to help track and scale this campaign to combat this ferocious second wave.
