The lockdown has made it significantly challenging for women in underprivileged communities to manage their period safely and with dignity. With most relief efforts catering to food insecurity and PPE shortages, the distribution of sanitary pads - an equally essential item - is being sidelined. As the lockdown continues, these women are facing an acute shortage of sanitary pads due to limited accessibility and loss of income.
Here’s your chance to support these women by donating sanitary pads through Project Prerna - an initiative by Nua, in collaboration with YWater India and the Navi Mumbai hub of the Global Shapers Community. Our aim is to supply pads to 30,000 women in urgent need who reside in the low-income neighbourhoods of Mumbai. With a larger objective of improving menstrual awareness, a pamphlet in Marathi and Hindi will be distributed with each packet detailing usage instructions, hygiene and safe disposal practices.
The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai is helping us with reaching out to these communities in Mumbai who have an urgent need of sanitary pads. They are also helping with distribution in these areas.

The Navi Mumbai hub is part of the Global Shapers Community, which is an initiative of the World Economic Forum. Since the lockdown, the Navi Mumbai hub has partnered with the State and Central Government to provide relief to the most vulnerable and at-risk communities. This includes PPEs to healthcare professionals, hot cooked meals and dry ration kits to migrant labourers in relief camps, and slum dwellers and the homeless across Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
For every Rs. 75 you donate, you ensure 1 month supply of sanitary napkins to a woman. In doing so, you will also contribute towards her overall menstrual health and awareness.
A donation of:
- Rs. 750 will support 10 women
- Rs. 1,500 will support 20 women
- Rs. 3,000 will support 40 women
- Rs. 15,000 will support 200 women
