About the Initiative
Kolhapur city does not have a dedicated ambulance for street dogs and other animals. We at Prani Kalyan Trust, a registered not for profit organization (Reg. No. - E-3420), are initiating this campaign for collecting the required fund to purchase an ambulance which will be dedicatedly used for rescuing and treating injured street dogs and other animals. The required amount along with necessary modifications and installing medical amenities is 700,000 (7 Lakh). We are hopeful that with people’s support, the animals of Kolhapur will have an ambulance soon!
About the Organization
Prani Kalyan Trust is a registered not for profit organization (Reg. No. - E-3420) working for the needs of street dogs and other animals of Kolhapur. The reason behind our formation was the lack of dedicated facility for injured street dogs and other animals. We have served 31,000 meals to street dogs and 2000 meals to street cattle in lockdown 1 & 2. Our mobile hospital which was started for flood affected street dogs and other animals covered 20+ villages, 15+ urban areas, treated 200+ dogs & 60+ cattle. So far we have rescued and provided medical treatment to over 300 dogs. We run a Hospital dedicated for street dogs and assist Kolhapur Municipal Corporation in Animal Birth Control Program. Our Helpline Number 74100 21200 attends to emergency cases on daily basis. We have made considerable impact since our formation and are determined to bring a positive change in the lives of street dogs and other animals.

Why an Ambulance?
There is no working ambulance in the city which could immediately attend to the emergency calls. In the absence of these facilities, it becomes very difficult for anyone to rescue an injured dog or any other animal and provide medical treatment and care.
At least 10 cases that require urgent medical attention daily go unattended due to lack of these facilities. The biggest hindrance we face in our work is the non availability of an ambulance. Our team and volunteers go towards any length to fill this gap, but only to a certain extent. We need a functioning ambulance to be able to make an impact in the lives of street dogs and other animals.
Is an Ambulance or New Ambulance Necessary?
The most important thing required while rescuing an injured street dog or any other animal is an ambulance. Injured street dog, for example is not in the condition to be picked up with bare hands and taken to the hospital. It needs a dog catcher, a net and a dedicated vehicle. One important thing about the vehicle is it should always be available and in a good working condition. Second hand models need regular maintenance and experiences constant breakdowns. The lifetime of such vehicle is also short and uncertain. A new vehicle on the other hand, if well maintained can easily run for 10-15 years with very low maintenance.
