Pragati Jatiya Vidyalaya is a co-educational school focusing on children belonging to economically weaker section of the society, a first of its kind in the district and locality. It is situated in the village of Joysagar, Nalbari District, Assam. The school was started in March 2020 to make quality education available for children belonging to economically challenged families of the surrounding villages. Its mission is to provide quality education through its dedicated faculty and staff as well as build a strong community. Pragati Jatiya Vidyalaya also aims to facilitate hands-on innovative projects and workshops, providing students with exposure to an innovative approach, and a “changemakers” attitude.

Since the beginning, the school struggled to provide the perfect infrastructure for its students with its limited funds. All the classrooms are constructed (80%) with light bamboo mesh and (20%) with bricks. This makes the building vulnerable to rain during monsoon, and cold winds during the winter. Absence of electricity in the campus is another problem faced by the students to study without lights, fans, or computers.

Pragati Jatiya Vidyalaya also suffers from limited number of books available in the school and with no access to computer, internet, or a science laboratory/ workshop, the teachers strive to teach them everything on the blackboard. The school also lacks a proper boundary and toilet facilities.

We plan to provide the students with best possible infrastructure and facilities by improving the  existing infrastructure and add some necessary facilities in the school campus.

There are 6 existing classrooms and one open room that accommodates students of seven classes and teachers. We want to build 6 another rooms which can be used as classrooms, office room, library, smart class room or computer laboratory, and science laboratory.

The existing building walls are also deteriorating as it was built with thin bamboo pilings, which makes cold and raindrops to penetrate. The existing building needs an urgent renovation, and colours, to attract students’ excitement at school.
Electrification of the school is another need of the hour, which can help the campus with light and fans in summer. Our vision to provide the best quality education would be incomplete without computers and science laboratory, that needs electricity.
Setting up a science laboratory, and a computer laboratory can uplift the students’ learning experience to a whole new level. The primary vision to focus on hands-on innovation is fairly incomplete right now with no proper science and computer laboratories in the school.

An open library is another facility that we have been planning since beginning. Open library facilities can be availed  by everyone in the locality, and not just for the students, so that the students get inspired to read books as a habit.

Presence of good and hygienic toilets in the schools is not just a necessity, but also about building the idea of proper sanitation in the students’ minds. All the students come from families with economic challenges, and some even do not have proper sanitation in their homes, but building the idea of good sanitation can help their families focus on hygienic sanitations, and in turn improve their life at a large scale.
A well built boundary wall can secure the campus and can make the students be mentally present and focused inside the school.
