The Context:
Every kid in India has the important right to get good schooling. This means they should learn how to read, write, and do math. They should feel happy while learning and not be scared. It doesn't matter where they're from; they should feel important.
The level of Govt. Schools in India is very poor in most of the villages. Also, the level of student who were shifted from Private Schools to Govt. Schools due to any financial crises got worst, very worst. Many parents from very poor families want their kids to be enrolled in good private schools but they don’t have enough funds.
Saying that India's kids had a hard time during this sickness is a big understatement. When the country kept opening and closing because of the pandemic and floods, most schools stayed closed. Students, especially those who couldn't get good stuff to learn from home, probably didn't learn as much as they should have.
Our Response:
We started ‘LIFE FOUNDATION’ in 2012, as a family of dedicated volunteers, with an aim to make education accessible to the very poor kids of Delhi & Haryana who were not enrolled in good schools. We started off providing digital trainings in govt school campuses initially and since then we have come a long way. Before the pandemic, we were doing projects to help make every child's life better. Most of our students come from families that don't have much money. Their parents lost their jobs, making life even harder. Studies show that kids in tough situations like this might leave school and start working. Our programs help these kids feel better about themselves and see a brighter future. Also, we were taking scholarship exams and providing financial assistance to the brilliant children of poor families in various cities in Haryana and Delhi.
Post the pandemic, when the situation of families and students got worst, we took a bold step by opening a small and beautiful experiential school to make such kids reading ready. We decided to take 50% students from very very poor and needy families. We are providing scholarships to students from such families and are waiving off most of their fees. Also, we are contacting some other schools who are willing to help such families, and we are providing scholarships to the poor students studying in other schools by paying their partial fees from our funds, and convincing management to waive off their rest of the fees.
We are ensuring to provide Experiential Styled education where student can learn by doing necessary experiments. We are also availing necessary equipment for experiments like Microscope, Telescope, Magnets, Chemicals, Flashcards, Diene’s Blocks, Abacus etc.
We never ask money from students for any of the activity, experiment etc. We start educating by providing Concrete Experiences for any of the subjects taught here. Also, we ensure active experimentation for all of the topics covered.
So, currently we have started a small rural school of experiential education for poor and rural kids from Nursery to grade V, also we are providing scholarships to poor kids at other good schools.
How will the funds be utilized?
The funds will be utilized to buy equipment for science and math practicals, to pay routine expenses and to provide scholarships to poor and needy, so that they can continue their education in our school.
