Pooja Ojha is a resident of Bhind, a city in Madhya Pradesh and an International Para Canoe athlete. She was the first international prize winner of the state and in 2017 won a silver medal in Asian Canoe Para Championship. Apart from this, she has further participated and won medals in 6 national and 3 international competitions; hence making India proud. However, she is in dire need of a sports wheelchair to make her day-to-day chores easier and especially to offer convenience while travelling to different states or countries for competition.
The importance of the wheelchair in Pooja’s life can be truly known by someone who lives and faces challenges like her. Wheelchair has become a cornerstone of her life and its absence makes her life incomplete primarily because it helps her in fulfilling her dream of becoming a top para canoe athlete.
A sports wheelchair is different from a regular one considering that it is much easier to operate and can also be folded and taken from one place to another without causing many troubles. However, this chair is quite expensive but would prove to be crucial in easing down the travel process for Pooja.
The financial situation of Pooja is bleak; hence she is unable to afford a sports wheelchair. This is especially difficult because her father is a mason and mother a homemaker and whatever earning is acquired by the family is spent mostly in the treatment of her brother, who injured his spinal cord in a car accident 2 years back and has been in a wheelchair since then.
