Story

About the Campaign

Sri Ganganagar is the northernmost district of Rajasthan which experiences extremely hot summers, with temperatures soaring to as high as 50 degrees Celsius every year (Note 1). Planting trees is one of the best ways to ensure lower temperatures and provide respite to citizens from the heat.

Aashadeep is a Sri Ganganagar based NGO that has taken up the challenge to make the city greener and transform its landscape. Since 2010, we have planted over 70,000 trees in Sri Ganganagar district including 9,000+ trees with tree guards alongside roads. In addition, we have educated the local population on the benefits of tree plantation through several awareness campaigns.

We are aiming to plant 3,100 native trees this planting season (August - December 2020) to increase the green cover of the city. Out of this, 3,000 trees will be planted in public parks, government schools, and open lands along with the distribution of saplings to farmers in neighboring villages. We will be planting native species such as sohanjna, amaltash, belpatra, arjun ki chhal, triveni, har singar, neem, sukhchain, kadam, bakayan, pilkhan and many more. The estimated cost is Rs. 70 per tree sapling. The planting will be conducted by Aashadeep team and volunteers while ensuring social distancing.

What's more? We will be planting 100 trees with tree guards along the road-side in parts of the city with low tree penetration. As part of this, we will be undertaking the following activities -

1. Surrounding tree saplings on the road-side with iron tree guards (weighing 12 kg, 5.5 feet high, costing Rs. 850 per guard)

2. Digging of concrete road-side to plant the tree in the soil with the help of specialized equipment, materials, and manpower

3. Regular watering and maintenance of growing trees on the roadside over the next 3 years till the tree becomes self-sustaining (we have 4 full-time gardeners and own a 6,000 L capacity water tanker that goes around the city for watering on a regular basis)

These activities will ensure growth and 100% survival of trees. The total estimated cost of tree saplings, transportation, concrete digging, iron tree guard, watering, and maintenance for 3 years comes out to be Rs. 1,500 per tree.

Your generous contribution will go a long way in improving the green cover of our city and positively impacting its eco-system and bio-diversity. All your donations will be exempt from tax under section 80G and we will provide the exemption certificate to all donors via email.

How will you know the status of the campaign?

1. Fortnightly status update on the progress (number of trees planted, funding utilized, location of plantation in the city)

2. Pictures of tree plantation will be shared along with the status update. The pictures will also be shared after 1,2 and 3 years from the date of the plantation to show the growth of the saplings.
