Thousands of working-class families have lost their belongings and homes after a court-mandated demolition in Delhi's Tughlakabad village. Despite living in the area for 20-30 years, their homes and neighbourhood have been taken away from them. This has placed immense financial and mental strain on the affected individuals, who predominantly work in the informal sector as domestic workers and labourers. Currently, many families are forced to stay in temporary shelters, enduring extreme heat and rising temperatures in the city. Several weeks in, the situation remains dire and needs urgent attention.
At Mutual Aid India, a volunteer collective, we are striving to raise funds to be transferred directly to the affected families for their emergency requirements and alternative housing needs. We are currently in the process of collecting and collating household data for that purpose.
