Khedmat is a Trust based in New Delhi which works for the upliftment of socially and economically downtrodden sections of the society, with a special focus on widows, orphans and divorcees.
In the second Covid wave, we initiated Khedmat's Free Ambulance Drive to help fight the healthcare crises whilst keeping it monetarily accessible to people who could not afford ambulance services easily. We have helped 35 patients till now.
To execute this, we have rented a Maruti Eeco and converted it into an ambulance with a bed and other necessary facilities.
The total approx. cost incurred in this amounts to ₹ 2,32,500. The break up of the expenditure is as under:
- Rent: Rs. 25,000
- Customisation Cost: Rs. 20,000
- Two drivers (salary) for alternative shifts during day and night: 30,000
- Volunteer in Ambulance (2): Rs, 30,000
- Fuel: Rs. 1000 per day
- PPE Kits (5 visits- 10kits), Masks: Rs. 2000 per day
- Sanitisation: Rs. 500 per day
- Oxygen Cylinders: 2 cylinders (10L) - Rs. 16000 total
- Flow Meters: 1 flow meter- Rs. 1500
- Miscellaneous: Rs. 5000
With this fundraising campaign, we aim to launch one more ambulance as part of our drive. Our upcoming POA is as follows:
- Entertain more patients with a total of two running ambulances.
- Reach to parts of Delhi we haven't yet reached
- An online and offline team has been created to take patient calls and volunteer in the ambulance with the patient.
- Monthly maintenance cost of our currently running ambulance: Rs. 1,95,000
- Cost of introducing one new ambulance: Rs. 2,32,500.
- Total fund to be raised: Rs. 4,27,500

KHEDMAT'S PREVIOUS WORK RECORD:
1. Khedmat Kitchen:
Khedmat was founded post the Covid Janta Curfew in March 2020. In the ensuing nationwide lockdown, we initiated the Khedmat Kitchen and mobilized enough resources to feed almost 5000 people per day.

2. Khedmat's Ration Distribution Drive:
Last year we carried out a full-fledged ration distribution drive amongst the wage workers, migrants and other poor people who suffered the most in the lockdown. We distributed almost 1000 ration kits.
3. #EmployAWidowChallenge
Khedmat work towards ensuring the financial independence of widows, orphans and divorcees by providing them with sewing machines. This drive has benefitted around 50 women in Delhi and rural women in Sahaspur, Sherkot, Nehtaur of Western UP Bijnor.
Most recently, we installed a free drinking water system outside Jama Masjid in Zakir Nagar for passers-by. It is open to all people.
