We (a friend with me) both went to Sikkim January 2019. It was a biting cold experience in the trek. There was snowfall prediction in isolated places in Lachen, Sikkim. We booked a cab to Lachen from Gangtok. Coming back from Lachen caught snowfall in the Middle. We were struck because no vehicle can move forward due to snow deposits. Then we trek for 5 hours. That trek changed my life completely. In those 5 hours, we came across actual Sikkim. People living in a very small hut for months and struck because of not being accepted by the community. There were approx 50-60 such huts that we came across that day. As we were hungry midway, we stopped to a hut and asked for some food and heat. They helped us and welcomed us in their small home. We ate Wai-Wai noodles and stayed for 2 hours and asked for a cab to Gangtok. The head of the family accepted to drop us in Gangtok by 10 PM. We offered a price of 7000 INR which was a nominal fee for 10 people. (Apart from we both there were 8 more co-travelers).In the time we stayed there, I asked a girl there, "Do you go to school? In which class you are in?" She didn't understand. My friend translated to their local language for me. She replied, "हामी यहाँ विद्यालय जानु हुँदैन, हाम्रो मुख्य लक्ष्य उत्पादन र पशुधन प्राप्त गर्नु हो", translated as "We don't go to school here, Our main work is to produce livestock.". I enquired that the government is already running campaigns and funds for the school to educate all. But it is not the case they said. The money which comes for school and educational purpose is obscured by naxals.That motivated me why not raise funds for them and handle money directly to the families.
