Manali Strays is a small rescue organisation working in one of the toughest terrains in India.
Rescuing animals in Manali is not easy. During monsoon, heavy rains trigger landslides, roads break, rivers and streams overflow. In winter, thick snow and freezing cold make it impossible to move our ambulance. Sometimes our team risks their own lives just to reach an injured animal.
But despite these challenges, we never stop rescuing. We never say no.
Our biggest struggle is not deadly rescues—it’s paying for the treatment of these animals.
Every month, we need medicines to treat injured, sick, or abused animals. Many rescues come with maggot wounds so severe that half their head or body is eaten away. Such cases need long-term care and lots of medicines.
We try to pay our pharmacy bills little by little with the donations we receive. But now our pending medicine bill has grown to ₹5 lakh. The pharmacy cannot give us any more medicines until this amount is cleared.
We urgently need to clear this debt—and prepare for the coming months.
Monsoon has already started. This is our busiest rescue season. The number of rescues rises sharply, with animals suffering from severe infections and maggot wounds that require urgent and ongoing treatment.
That’s why we are aiming to raise ₹8 lakh through this fundraiser.
We cannot stop rescuing animals in need—because there is no one else on this side of the valley doing this work. This is not for us. It is for the animals of this valley who have no one else.
