I am Nita Shashidharan, a PhD Student, a researcher whose work looks at questions of conservation and livelihoods in a Tiger Reserve in India. I am the first in my family in generations to be on my way to complete this higher education degree. As part of my research journey, I am to learn to present my work at national and international forums and get a wide exposure that helps grooming me as a student into a better scientist and thinker.
For the same, I had applied to a few international and national conferences. I recently got selected for one of the prominent conferences that are held in the sector of forest and livelihoods (FLARE).This year FLARE is being hosted in Rome, Italy between Oct 7 to Oct 10. At this conference, I have been selected to present my work on the changing forest-agricultural relationships of tribal communities in a protected area. However, going to this conference is financially too expensive for a student. The total expenditure for this trip is INR 1.4 lakh. I seek support to raise the pending amount I need to make this education goal possible.
India has very limited funding opportunities for conferences for its budding researchers. Hence, I now turned to crowdfunding to help me raise the money for this cause. I have managed to already raise partial amount for travel thanks to a travel grant from my institution, and the conference organizers have waived my registration fees. Since, Rome is an expensive city, however, I am still short of funds.
I am seeking support from individuals/organizations who would be willing to sponsor me to make this education goal possible. I am specifically seeking to raise INR 50,000 to make possible accommodation, travel, and subsistence expense arrangements for the conference. I am more than happy to share receipts and details of how the funds are used and how my visit made a difference to the completion of PhD.
