Hello...My niece Ms. Nisha has been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Nisha is only 31 years old and resides in Chennai, India
As you can imagine it was shocking and a lot to take in for her. She was immediately admitted to the hospital and her world began to spin and fall apart. Since the diagnosis, she has battled enormous physical pain in phases, chronic fatigue, and exhaustion. She has had several rounds of chemotherapy, each more painful than the last, with about a month of hospital stay for each cycle. To keep her blood cells count as close to normal as possible, she has been given blood transfusions many times. She is on antivirals and antibacterials, and she has to take a literal fistful of medicines every night before she goes to sleep, only she does not sleep well and wakes up many times in the night. She has her good and bad days and yet she tries to smile through the pain, nausea, fear. She needs help as her only best chance is an Allogeneic Bone Marrow Transplant from an unrelated donor immediately. Her cancer can be fully cured if she can get a bone marrow transplant. This will cost about INR. 50 lakhs excluding hospitalization charges, which is a huge sum for her, especially because she hasn’t worked for months. Her Mom, my younger sister Mrs. Melani Rajendran is a widowed parent who quit her job in order to support and take care of Nisha.
Her treatment has already used up their savings as well as a small payout from a health insurance plan they had.
To get better, to give life a chance, her only hope is to crowdfund for her treatment.
So, I'm reaching out to my friends, my students, and the kindness of strangers to meet Nisha’s needs.
