My name is Shreeparna Chakrabarti. This fundraiser is for my husband Nilabja Chakrabarti, for urgent and immediate Liver Transplant.
He has been diagnosed with Cirrhosis of Liver advanced stage. Autoimmune Hepatitis is suspected to be the root cause. He is Non-Alcoholic.
Estimated Cost is Rs. 45 Lakhs (inclusive of the surgery package of 27.50 Lakhs) at least.
I am his wife Shreeparna Chakraborty. And we are all as surprised as anybody that a person who did not drink a drop of alcohol all his life now has advanced stage cirrhosis of liver, possibly due to autoimmune hepatitis.
Until recently, Nilabja was living normally navigating through midlife like many of us. He is a practicing Civil Engineer (alumnus of Jadavpur University) and the sole earning member of our family, a loving father to his daughter who is going to appear for the Boards XII next year, a devoted husband, a good son to his mother who is currently unwell (his father passed away last year). He is a poet and has published collections of his poems, and one novel (hopes his 2nd novel would be published soon), a singer, a film buff who dreams of making a short feature film some day, and one of the nicest and friendliest guys you would find, with a great sense of humour.
Nilabja did not drink or smoke. Though there had been some worrying signs, and recent diagnosis of liver issues, possibly caused by autoimmune hepatitis, nobody was prepared for the sudden progressive health deterioration after being admitted to the hospital for a routine checkup in mid-September this year. After extended stay at Manipal Hospital (formerly AMRI, Salt Lake) in Kolkata, the doctors recommended shifting to Rela Institute in Chennai for liver transplant within the next 3 months from a cadaver donor.
After arriving at Rela Chennai for initial checkup on 28.Oct.2025 his health worsened and had to be admitted to the ICU there, and the Rela doctor said that Nilabja needs immediate liver transplant within the next 7 - 10 days from a live donor (since there was no time to wait for a cadaver donor).
This was like a bolt from the blue. Arranging a live donor at such a short notice, costs spiraling out of control (huge overrun over budgeted expenditure even before reaching the operating table, and lengthy post operative care to come), mounting logistical challenges, to say nothing of the overwhelmed and agonized mental state of me and the family, this is like a nightmare, only it is real.
While Nilabja has medical insurance, the sum assured for this year has already been exhausted during previous hospital visits. So I would like to request all you kind souls out there to please donate whatever you can to this fund.
