My Son, Naresh Kumar, aged 15 years, has shown symptoms with difficulty walking with severe pain in legs; less severe pain in arms, breathing muscles, difficulty with eye muscles and vision, abnormal heart rate, problems with digestion, bladder control, indicating nerve damage.
Naresh had a sudden collapse on 25/06/2021 and crumbled to the ground, losing his ability to stand and walk. Naresh was immediately admitted in Sree Balaji Medical College and Hospital. After 3 days of undergoing multiple tests such as Nerve conduction studies and continuous observations by the doctors, Naresh has been diagnosed to have Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), which is a rare neurological disorder.
His immune system mistakenly attacks part of its peripheral nervous system, which is the network of nerves located outside of the brain and spinal cord.
Naresh Kumar is still under observation for further complications. Further tests have been halted due to lack of funds.
As there is an impression of ‘enhancement noted in cauda equina nerve roots in the lumbar spinal canal’ and as there is no brain damage as of now, Doctors are proceeding to operate Spinal tap (lumbar puncture) on the spinal cord to take the spinal fluids on 05/07/2021.

Doctors have advised for Immunoglobulin therapy, in which, Immunoglobulin containing healthy antibodies from blood donors is given through a vein intravenously (IVIg injection). High doses of immunoglobulin can block the damaging antibodies that may contribute to Guillain-Barre Syndrome.
