The villagers residing in Maheshpur, Dakshin Laxminarayanpur, Paschim Surendranagar and Gopal Nagar are mainly involved in labour oriented jobs/daily wage jobs who earn a meagre amount which is just enough for their survival. The lockdown during COVID-19 pandemic has already hit them very hard economically. They were trying to cope up with this crisis, when cyclone Amphan hit the Bay of Bengal causing heavy destruction and havoc in the above mentioned villages (along with many other parts of the eastern coast of India). This cyclone aggravated the already miserable economic state of the villages. Their shelters, farm lands, other properties and the village infrastructures were destroyed and uprooted. The villagers who were already living on subsistence level barely managing the basic amenities of life now are clueless even about providing a roof over their head to protect their family and children. Through this crowdfunding a few boys who belongs from this village are trying to raise enough funds to support the families financially to eliminate their woes. The fund might be a small step in providing the families not only with their daily meals but also with the restoration of their huts and also rekindling their spirits.
