    Nanda Thakkar

    from Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra

Latest update as of 11th of Nov, 2022.

My mother, Nanda, had recently undergone surgery to remove her cyst, ovaries and the uterus.

The surgery went well, but the stitches weren't healed, neither was the wound.
Today, was the day for her stitches to get removed, but instead they opened up.

The wound is infected, now, to dress up the wound and stitch her back, a few rounds of dressing is needed and a strict care under her surgeon.

She will be at the hospital for approximately 10days more. And the daily hospital charges excluding the medicine expenses is approx 8k.

I am financially devastated and helpless at the moment. Please spread the word. Please request your friends to donate, please request your family to share. Please spread the word as much as possible.

I am in situation where no one should be. I am begging you literally and with all my heart to donate. To send help for my mother. I am no where in a condition to pay the bills.

Thanks a lot.

Hello, I am Shai, a trans-identifying person. I am here with a plea for my mother, Nanda. She is 63 years old and suffers from post-effects of paralysis.

She is hospitalized for her tumor at the moment. A few days ago, there was pain around her stomach and inflammation in the body and her urine. Her ESR count was high at that time.

She suffered from UTI, but the source of the pain was undetectable. We had to do her sonography to check the functionality of her kidney; it came out normal.

And later, we went for a CT-Scan (Plain and contrast axial scan of the abdomen and pelvis); here, a cyst was detected.

To check the presence of this cyst and if it is cancerous, A gynecologist suggested performing two different blood tests called CA 125 (ROMA Index) and CEA 19.9.

From the above report, CEA 19.9 suggests its presence and the need for SURGERY. The cyst can lead to OVARIAN CANCER. But again, to clarify its life and the possibility of developing it again, two more blood tests are suggested by an Oncologist called beta-HCG and alpha-fetoprotein (AFP)

She was admitted on the 18th of October until today. She went under observation from an MD Physician to Gynecologist and now to an Oncologist.

The daily hospital charges are increasing; we have to go for this surgery for her, which will cost a fortune. I have paid the deposit of 30k at the hospital, but daily medicine, diapers, syringe, gloves, and wet bath towels are all expenses I have to cover; I haven't paid the medicines bill yet.

Now at the time of surgery, I am trying to get Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Yojna for its expenses, but again, I will require funds for her post-op care and stay at the hospital.

Now, the daily hospital expenses at approx 10k, which includes bed charges, doctor visits, nursing charges, food, blood pressure checking a day thrice, and sugar level checking a day thrice. And her cleaning and maintenance of hygiene.

I am trying to gather as many funds as possible for her; I am also on HRT and psychiatric meds. Things are already difficult for me as a trans-identifying person, and now it has become a challenge to get help for myself and my mother.

Whatever is possible for you, kindly donate. Even 100, 200, 300, 500, 1000 bucks, or whatever is in your capacity will help us a lot.

Every contribution counts. My mother and I will be forever grateful to you for your help.

Thanks a lot.

New Update for the house-

Hello, I hope this message finds you well. I am Shai (Shailesh). I am reaching out to you with a heartfelt plea for my disabled (currently bedridden) mother.

My mother has faced numerous challenges due to her disabilities, and one of the most pressing concerns we have is ensuring she has a safe and accessible place to live.

Unfortunately, our current living situation does not adequately meet her needs, and we are in urgent need of a suitable home that can accommodate her mobility requirements.

We are raising funds to purchase and modify a home so that it's safe, accessible, and nurturing for my mother. Please read on to learn more about me, my mother, the new home we are seeking, and how the funds will be used.

About me:
I am a Dalit trans queer person living with HIV and diabetes. I suffer from severe social anxiety disorder and major depression. Besides this, I am a student of Master's (in English Lit), and I work as a rescuer and feeder for our local cats and their litters in Navi Mumbai, Airoli.

(ID- This is me, Shai)

About my mother:
My mother, Nanda, is elderly, 64-year patient living with long-term COVID-19 effects. When the virus began, my mother's health started deteriorating.

She was pre-diabetic and had high blood pressure; it got worse in December 2017.

She had her first partial paralysis attack, since then her legs started weakening.

After she got COVID, it was declared that her nerves were affected and had started to get damaged, which led to Neuropathy.

(ID- Neuropathy report)

In the year 2022, she developed an ovarian cyst, for which she was operated on, and surgically her uterus, ovaries and the cyst were removed.

(ID- Ovarian Cyst)

The disaster didn't end there; after her surgery, in six months, she developed an umbilical hernia and gallbladder stones. Again, we had to operate on her. The organs were saved with the gauze, which was applied to the hernia region, and the gallbladder was removed.

(ID- Gall Bladder)

Later, last year in 2023, when her neurologist detected Neuropathy through EMG, he put her on steroids, 1 gram for three days and later 8mg thrice a day, then reduced to 4mg and later 2mg. It was stopped after a three-month's course. But the steroids had its negative effects and we were warned about it.

(ID- This is the steroids that was given to my mother)

Hence, it affected her legs severely; she stopped walking, and they wouldn't respond to her. That was the moment when through an MRI Avascular Necrosis was detected. Her hips were damaged. Right hip, more than the left one. In November, we had to do her
HIP REPLACEMENT SURGERY and put implants.

(ID- Hip Ball)

(ID- Hip Implant)

Since 2017, her life has started failing her, and when COVID-19 hit, everything collapsed. The impact of Long COVID has affected her life.

(ID- When she completely became bedridden)

She had to go through multiple surgeries. We were in and out of the hospital nearly a hundred times.

The reason to tell her story is important because here, she was not only being operated on multiple times, but also being juggled from a tiny lane of the slum where we used to live.

Our current living situation has become increasingly untenable due to moving her on a stretcher or on a thick plastic rug. For safety concerns and structural issues, it has become clear that staying there is not conducive to her well-being.

About the new home we are seeking:
I have identified a property with immense promise for my mother. It is a place where I can envision her living without being traumatized by constant movements. This place is 500 meters away from a well-known hospital (where she used to be admitted all the time)

This property will help me provide stability for her. However, to turn this vision into reality, I require financial assistance.

My goal is to acquire the property and undertake necessary renovations and redevelopment to transform it into a safe, comfortable, and nurturing home for my mother.

This property is directly adjacent to a road, which is a bonus point for my mother; she will be carried easily while going for hospital visits for her regular checkups.

This property cost INR 10,50,000, or $12,590 USD.

Your support can make a tangible difference in achieving this objective, whether through donations, contributions, or spreading the word.

How the funds raised will be used:
To purchase a house for me and my mother: 10,50,000 INR ($12,590 USD)
Regardless of size, every contribution brings us one step closer to realizing our dream of a new beginning. Your generosity will impact our lives and have a positive influence on my mother.

I understand that times are challenging given the situation of Palestinians and other severely affected countries because of ongoing genocide, ethnic cleansing, etc.
I am sorry, despite being traumatized by these events, I ask you for your help to save one life, save my mother. I would appreciate any assistance you can provide. Your kindness and compassion will not be forgotten.

Thank you for taking the time to consider my mother and my appeal. You can help us turn a dream into a reality and create a place to call a forever home.

Thank you.
