AICA

AICA (Appreciation of Indian Classical Arts) is an initiative of Kalai Koodam Academy of Performing Arts Trust, managed by renowned Bharatanatyam artiste and research Scholar L.Murugashankari. This is a drive conducted to promote, propogate and preserve the Classical Art forms of India by reaching out to the youth and children in schools and colleges. The aim is to make classical art forms understandable to the next generation and thereby igniting an interest, passion and respect for the arts, which represents our glorious heritage. Through AICA we conduct lectures demonstrations at schools and colleges, which are presented in the form of an interactive session with performances by artistes of repute. We firmly believe that this will be instrumental in the overall personality development of the students, helping them evolve as better human beings. It also strengthens their knowledge about our culture and heritage, which is the NEED OF THE HOUR. This initiative is done to create a BETTER and CULTURALLY RICH TOMORROW without any personal gain in mind.

AICA DANCE FESTIVAL 2018

In 2018, we conducted a Classical dance festival in Madurai featuring Kathak, Odissi, Kuchipudi, Sattriya and Bharatanatyam dances by talented artistes from different parts of India. The program was Inaugurated by Mr. Hari Thiagarajan. It was a smashing super hit with the auditorium (seating capacity 550 including balcony) being houseful for the entire duration (3 hours) of the program. We are grateful to our partners, sponsors and friends who helped us through crowd funding for making this possible. The press and media coverage for the event was truly encouraging.
LOOKING FORWARD TO YOUR SUPPORT FOR AICA DANCE FESTIVAL 2019

This year AICA dance festival is scheduled to happen on Oct 20th. We are presenting Kathak (Classical dance form from UP/Rajasthan), Manipuri (Manipur), Kuchipudi (Andhra Pradesh), Odissi (Orissa) and Bharatanatyam.  On Oct 19th and 21st we are planning on conducting Lecture-demonstrations by the artistes who are invited to perform for the festival in schools and colleges at Madurai. The total Expenses for conducting this festival is 3 Lakhs, which includes, Auditorium rent, Lights, Sound, Stage décor, Artiste Payment, Artiste Accommodation and food, their local hospitality for 3 days, Publicity, Printing Expenses, etc.
In the past, Kings and people from the Royal family and the temples patronised arts and supported the artistes. Today, we do not have that set up. This is a time, when taking up performing Classical arts as a profession is not economic at all, because we artistes do not get paid (most of the time). However, at AICA dance festival, we make sure that the reputed artistes invited are provided accommodation, food, refreshments, local hospitality and a nominal allowance which will meet the travel expenses of the artistes as well.
This is only possible with your help. Looking forward to your generous contributions and love. Thanks.
