This is Mukund Agrawal, a 2017 IIT Delhi graduate. With a deep urge to work for Bihar, my native state, I returned to Bihar after eight years in December 2018. My motivation to work full time for the society has been shaped by my experiences during college where I was involved in various activities including teaching kids in slum area, holding regular discussions on topics concerning society, and visiting different parts of country and meeting people who have dedicated their lives working selflessly for the upliftment of masses.
My work is focused on the areas of employment and education. Bihar faces unique challenges in these two areas with lakhs of people, especially from villages, migrating to other states in search of jobs or quality education. Since my initial effort, like-minded people locally started working with me and have now joined me full-time in this long-term effort. As of now, we managed to have a small agricultural site in Pirpainti, Bhagalpur wherein we are developing an agroforestry model that can be replicated by other farmers in the village. In addition, we are running coaching classes for students of all standards focusing on their holistic development.
From the past two years we have been living in the homes of local families who are kind enough to support the good work happening in the village. Every now and then our college friends or other guests from cities visit us to look at our work. Somehow we were managing our guests till now by arranging their stay at some local homes. Since our work is expanding we don't want to give extra burden to the local families. Therefore we feel the need for a residential space with a hall, kitchen, toilets and bathrooms, water supply, etc.
