We are Teach for India fellows who teach at a low income government school in Nana Peth, Pune. This means that the parents of most of our children are daily wage earners such as fruit vendors and tempo/rickshaw drivers. Due to the loss of their livelihood, they are unable to buy even basic ration/grocery supplies, and our children are going hungry.
We have been in touch with 200 students across 5 classes. We began reaching out to grocery shops in the area and sending money across for these families to buy ration/essential food supplies, but as the days go by, we realize that a much larger effort is needed to keep these students and their families fed till the end of the lockdown.
The list below shows the cost of ration/essential grocery items necessary to feed a family of 5 for 14 days. Depending on the family size, the number of total kits required will vary.

Our students live in Nana Peth, Bhawani Peth, Lohiya Nagar and Kashewadi. We are coordinating with distributors who will ensure that the food packets reach those families in need. We are taking all the precautions necessary and ensuring that social distancing is maintained during the distribution process.
We are grateful for any amount that you are able to give to this cause.
