Charles Darwin said only the fittest shall survive. What if some children are undisposed to health and fitness because of their circumstances? Do they not deserve to survive?

What am I talking about?
I am privileged to have been working in a government school since the past 8 months. The experience is as rewarding as it is heart wrenching. The challenges faced by the kids, their parents and teachers are endless. Amidst these, there is one that bothers me the most. The problem of improper nutrition. Most kids seldom have breakfast, even when they do, it is just chai and biscuits. Breakfast is not the only problem though, it is the lack of nourishing food throughout the day.

Why should this bother anyone?
Due to inadequate nutrition, many kids frequently complain of head aches, stomach aches, have terrible rashes and fall sick. This precludes them from attending school effectively. 70% of the kids are not at the optimum height and weight for their age. How can one expect a child so wanting in nutrition to be able to learn in class? Scarier still, how will these kids be equipped to function well as adults?

So, what now?
To address this problem, I am going to start The Ragi Java Project in my school. As part of this, ragi java (finger millet porridge) will be made and served in school at 10:30 am everyday for 200 kids. Ragi being rich in iron and calcium strengthens the body and addresses gaps in nutrition effectively. For running this project, I will need 25,000 INR per month. The monthly expenses to serve 200 kids everyday will include the following -

What can you do?
Please contribute to this initiative for improving the health, thus bettering lives for these children. Kindly note that I am collecting the amount for 3 months. Should you choose to donate, you will receive a monthly report of the expenses along with invoices.
No amount is too small to make a difference.
