In the Spiti region of Himachal Pradesh  specifically at kaza and nearby villages where the temperature goes to -30° during winter every year. There's a population of around 700 + Stray Dogs which are having a serious problem of not having enough food for them to eat as most of the Hotel/Homestay gets closed because of the harsh weather conditions and the dogs are forced to either starve to death or to feed themselves by eating the weakest dog among them or sometimes by eating their own puppies. 🐾

This problem has been there in Spiti for more than 10 years now and the situation seems to be getting more severe with each passing year, as the population of dogs keeps on increasing in the region the need for food is only getting higher. Due to which dogs are becoming aggressive and even sometimes attacking the unknown tourist as well as their own villagers.

To deal with this problem a group of 10 to 12 local ladies have come together and formed a self help group with the name of "Mentok self help group" also known as (kutto ki Amma) whose major agenda is to take care of these dogs by providing them with the bare minimum  food which they can arrange by themselves on weekly basis.

These ladies have been working since 2007 and every Sunday they make an extra effort to organise themselves and cook food and feed the dogs during the weekdays. They do this till the market starts opening in summers and dogs start getting food from other benefactors.

Our Aim is to set up a sterilisation camp at Kaza and in the nearby villages to help control the excessive population of dogs in the valley and provide them with enough food for their survival in the extreme Weather conditions.

We request you to kindly consider helping us so that we can make sure that hunger is the last reason for a puppy's death.
