A resident of Bandra East, 38-year-old Mohan Tambe has had polio in both legs since he was 3 years old. While the upper half of his body is strong and functional, the lower half is completely immobile.
He has been working as a temporary staff at the Mumbai University, doing errands, everyday paperwork and similar adhoc activities. Currently, he draws a remuneration of Rs. 6,000 monthly.
Mohan comes from a family of 9 people living under the same roof. There are only 2 earning members in his home, the second one being his younger brother who makes just enough to support the family’s basic needs.
Over the years, this has made extremely difficult for Mohan to lead a normal life. He is restricted to a wheelchair and has to depend on others to move around. His disability has taken away most of his independence.
We, at Mumbai North Central District Forum (MNCDF), came across Mohan Tambe through a referral. Our founder, Advocate TrivanKumar Karnani met Mohan to understand his issues and requirements, while our team conducted multiple rounds of thorough verification. We then joined Mohan in determining the wheelchair that would meet his needs with several wheelchair trials.
After extensive research and trials, we came to the conclusion along with Mohan that the NeoFly wheelchair along with the NeoBolt attachment will help Mohan take complete charge of his life.
NeoFly and NeoBolt are a wheelchair and a motorized machine respectively, developed by IIT Madras' TTK Center for Rehabilitation Research and Device Development (R2D2) for the differently-abled.
We then connected with Swostik Sourav Dash, Co-Founder & CEO of NeoMotion to confirm if it was a right choice for Mohan. Swostik assured us that the NeoFly and NeoBolt will give Mohan a safe and road-worthy vehicle and help him navigate terrains like unpaved streets or climb a steep gradient with complete ease and by himself. He also explained how the motorized machine can attached and reattached to the wheelchair whenever required, without any help.
The NeoFly wheelchair will be customized as per Mohan and his requirements. It will give him higher mobility and manoeuvrability. It will help him move more efficiently than conventional wheelchairs.
The NeoBolt attachment will make him completely independent as he will able to strap the attachment to his NeoFly wheelchair and start it like a motorbike – without any help from any one.
MNCDF wants to make this dream come true for Mohan. We are raising Rs.1,00,000 to help him lead a better and fuller life.
The funds raised will be utilized for the following:
- NeoFly Wheelchair + NeoBolt - Rs.94,900
- Payment gateway fees & miscellaneous expenses - Rs. 5,100
