COVID-19 is an emerging global pandemic and the nation is fighting it from spreading.
Amidst all the best effort that the government is putting, there are distressed families falling through the cracks. During this total lockdown Kalam Centre team is reaching out to the vulnerable section of the society, the daily wage earners, vendors and the gig-economy workers. These people have been left in the middle during this crisis and have nowhere to go.
We help the families in two model (depending on their need)
  1. Families who are stranded and homeless: We provide them with kits with cooked meals, sanitizer and masks.
  2. Families who are left without income but with shelter: We provide them with an uncooked meal kit, hand-wash and masks. Uncooked meals consist of Arhar Daal (2 kg), Rice (5 kg), Aata (5 kg), Groceries, Spices, Salt, Sugar, Milk Packet, Tea Bag, Biscuit box, cooking oil, utensil cleaner detergent and hand soap.
Our team is reaching out to the remotest location and tapping all these migrants and providing them the basics. Necessary precautions are being taken while cooking these meals too as per COVID-19 guidelines.
We have already coordinated with volunteers in the local communities who are lending their support for this noble cause and we are working closely with the government authorities for permissions and approvals. One of the most amazing things about humanity is the connection and the bond that is out there during this moment and people are cooperating in this moment of the outbreak.
We are already helping a total of 500 stranded migrants every day by providing them food packets (under Model 1).
Also, so far, we have been able to reach out to 5000 family members by providing them groceries sanitizers and masks (under Model 2)
Our organization is a member of the United Nations (UN) Global Compact for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and works closely with 5 state governments across India.
Your support will help us augment this drive through the coming days.
