Supporting this campaign means supporting The Community Library Project to run reading and community-based programs that serve 9000+ children and adults in Delhi-NCR that have been denied access to education and reading.
We have been building access to books, reading, and education through free libraries for nearly ten years - setting up and running 3 free community library branches (in Khirki Extension, South-Ex Kotla Mubarakpur, and Sikanderpur) and a free online library, Duniya Sabki. Today, we must raise INR 20,00,000 to meet our critical costs for reading and community-based programs that serve our 9000+ members.
Do you believe that everyone has the right to read? Support our libraries by making a contribution- nothing is too big or small- and sharing this page with your network urging them to donate.
Who We Are
The Community Library Project is an anti-caste people's initiative, running free community libraries in Delhi-NCR. TCLP libraries are founded on the principle that everyone has a right to read and to access books, education and information. At the same time we are advocating with governments and other stakeholders for a publicly owned, free library system that is accessible to all without discrimination based on gender, disability, caste, class, religion, sexual orientation, etc. We are one of the founding members and primary drivers of the Free Libraries Network (FLN) – a coalition of 150+ free library organizations and practitioners. The Community Library Project is a certified Article 64 Charitable Trust, and donations to us are exempt from tax under section 80G of the Income Tax Act in India.
What We Do and How We Do it
TCLP has been running free libraries by offering free membership to all, by welcoming everyone, by developing research-based curriculum based around reading with fluency, by extending library services to include an online library and internet access project, by committing to universal access for all, and by running an extensive co-curricular program that holds events around art, literature, culture and politics. Our 3 community libraries serve 9000+ members with a collection of 39000+ books in keeping with International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions - IFLA’s standards and guidelines. We work in response to our community’s needs- this year we are building an Adult Literacy program, organizing Women’s Reading Circles, and undertaking modifications to address accessibility of persons with disabilities. Libraries are not just places to go and borrow books from, they are active community spaces and public spheres where democracy can thrive and real transformation can take place.
Your support allows us to continue to run free libraries- where books and the Right to Read belong not only to a few, but to all. Become a part of the free library movement by pledging your annual support and donating now so that we can continue our work.
