We are Meher Rehman’s friends, and today we’re reaching out to you with heavy hearts and hopeful spirits. Meher isn’t just a friend to us—she’s our inspiration, our joy, and one of the kindest souls we’ve ever known.
At just 18, Meher has accomplished what most can only dream of. Coming from the remote Ganderbal district in Jammu & Kashmir, and being part of the marginalized Bakarwal tribal community, her life has never been easy. Her family survives on daily wages, with an annual income of less than ₹1 lakh. Her father, now in his 70s, battles chronic health issues, and her mother is a homemaker. Among her siblings, only one brother has a steady job to support the entire family.
But none of these hardships stopped Meher. She’s a first-generation learner who believed in herself and fought every obstacle for her education. We’ve seen her push herself day and night—scoring 89% in her 10th boards and 84% in 12th. She won a 100% scholarship to study BA in Liberal Studies at BML Munjal University, and she's also a proud Karta Initiative India Foundation scholar.
Meher is much more than just brilliant in academics. She’s a powerhouse of energy—whether it's kho-kho, tug-of-war, carrom, or her love for dancing and singing. Her laughter fills every room. Her dreams? They’re never just about her. She always says she wants to inspire other young girls from her community to believe in themselves and aim higher.
A few weeks ago, Meher was interning with Waste Warriors in Dehradun. She quickly became family to the team there—always eager to help, learn, and bring her warmth into every space she entered.
But everything changed on the evening of June 29.
Meher had stepped out from her accommodation on Rajpur Road to get a small snack—a packet of noodles. On her way, a group of stray dogs startled her. In trying to avoid them, she accidentally stepped onto the road. At that exact moment, a taxi passed by and struck her.
The collision was brutal.
A kind stranger rushed her to Max Hospital in an auto. By then, Meher had lost almost 4 litres of blood. Her ribs were shattered, her spleen ruptured, and internal injuries left her critical. That night, doctors performed an emergency splenectomy, transfusing 17 units of blood to stabilize her.
Right now, Meher is fighting for her life in the ICU, sedated and on ventilator support.
We’ve always known her to be strong—but even the strongest need help.
Her medical costs have already crossed several lakhs and are expected to reach ₹15 lakhs. Emergency surgeries, ICU care, transfusions, medications—none of this is covered under Ayushman Bharat. And her family simply cannot afford this. They have no assets, no savings—just hope.
This is where we, and hopefully you, step in. We’re refusing to let money decide Meher’s fate. She has so much life to live. So many dreams left to chase. She’s worked too hard to stop here.
We’re asking you—please, help us bring her back.
Your contribution, no matter how small, will go directly to her brother Zahid Ahmad Mughal Bakerwal’s bank account to cover her treatment.
She believed in us. We believe in her. And now, we’re hoping you do too.
Please donate. Please share. Please stand with Meher.
Thank you—for being part of her story.
