My Name is Dinesh Pal, and I’m from Agra, Uttar Pradesh.
On August 17, 2023, my life changed forever. What began as a small argument with friends quickly escalated into a nightmare. In a moment of unimaginable violence, someone threw a 5-liter barrel of acid at me. The acid left me with severe burns across 80% of my face, head, chest, and back. Worse, I nearly lost my vision completely—pushing me into a world of darkness and pain. An FIR was filed at Loha Mandi Police Station in Agra, and the legal process is ongoing, but my journey has been incredibly hard.
Despite the devastating impact of the attack, I’ve received no financial support from the government or any other authority. I’ve been fighting both physically and emotionally to recover, but my injuries have left me dependent on others for even the most basic needs. My face is disfigured, my vision is nearly gone, and my independence has been shattered.
A Long and Painful Road to Recovery
My recovery began in October 2023 with emergency skin graft surgeries at AIIMS, Delhi. Then, between December 2023 and June 2024, I underwent two major eye surgeries in Chennai. Doctors injected silicon gel and performed a mucous membrane graft to try to save my sight. These surgeries came with a steep financial cost, amounting to ₹5 lakh, which has been a huge burden for me and my family.
An Urgent Call for Help: The Next Surgery
Now, in September 2024, I’m scheduled for another critical eye surgery. This operation could be my last chance to regain my sight. After the surgery, I’ll be fitted with lenses that may allow me to see again. It’s not just about the medical procedure—this surgery is my hope for reclaiming my life, my independence, and my ability to reconnect with the world around me.
