With the second wave of coronavirus sweeping the country many families at the fringes of society have been forced into poverty. Specifically, menstruators across the country are facing new challenges in accessing safe and hygienic-sanitary products.
The women living in shelter homes have been left to fend for themselves due to the employment crisis pushed by the COVID-19 pandemic. They resort to using unsanitary methods like cotton and newspapers to fulfill their menstrual needs that further increase the risk of contracting infections.
The existing taboo around menstruation has coupled with the preexisting inefficient healthcare system. This deprives around 80% of all Indian menstruators of access to necessary period products. There has been a further decline in the accessibility and availability of menstrual products. Menstruators in these shelters cannot afford commonly available products.
We are looking to raise 30 thousand rupees to meet our goal of providing sanitary pads and hygiene awareness to 1000 women living in shelters and slums.
