Namaste,
Most of us are blessed and always have plenty of nice meals to eat every day. But do you know that in our city, about 14000 families (70000 people) and thousands of elderly single and widow women end up sleeping hungry almost daily. They are the victims of harsh poverty.
Let us show the care, compassion and our duty towards our brothers and sisters and share from the plenty we have. Let us contribute kindly so that no one in our city has to sleep hungry.
Manav Sadhna (www.manavsadhna.orgs) has been humbly working for 26 years to strengthen underprivelled communities in Ahmedabad through programs in value based education, community building, nutrtion, health and women’s empowerment. Althrough there is great diversity among these programs, they are all based on people’s participation and evolve according to the needs of the community. Today Manav Sadhna serves more than 10500 children, women and elderly through a spectrum of projects. Through the years, we have adopted the practice of Developing Community centers in the heart of urban slums as a space that enables the holistic development of the community.
The Anna Daan project was started in 1994 as a way for the community to assist its underprivileged members. The literal meaning of Anna Daan is “donation of food”, and in the project’s original form, Ahmedabad families would put aside a fistful of grains daily and then donate it to use for monthly distribution. In more recent times, the donations tend to come in the form of cash, which we use to purchase food supplies and prepare the following kits: kit of 5 kg flour, 4 kg of rice, 3 kg dal and 1 liter of oil every month and other items. Every month, we distribute the kits to needy families and elderly who we have identified and support for one year.
These grocery kits distributed to 350 such people at the various slum community across Ahmedbad on different dates. These community centers are 1. Manav Seva Center at Shahpur on 20th of every month. 2. Gandhi Ashram Center on 26th 3. Manav Jatatn, Juna Vadaj, Ramapir no Tekro slum on 27th and Manav Mitra Center at Sabarmati on 1st of every month.
The Actual cost of the project is aprox. 12 to 13 lacs. to We receive some donation in kind by the individuals which are not enough to support the needy so we have to raise donation in order to purchase remaining groceries every month and distributed amongst the most deserving people. Every month we have more and more beneficiaries coming to us for the help and this will increase the budget.
To support one family cost RS. 9000 yearly that includes groceries kit of 5 kg flour, 4 kg of rice, 3 kg dal and 1 liter of oil every month
How amazing and blessed you will feel while having a nice meal, that from your support, some of the most deserving folks will be having a meal today. God bless you and your loved ones.
