Community 1st Foundation was founded by 3 Teach for India alumni in Mumbai’s second-largest slum comprising 60 schools and having one of the highest crime rates; Malwani
“I want to break gender stereotypes. I continue helping my mother with housework as it’s everyone’s responsibility”, says Asif - a grade 8th student part of Community1st's programs. He recollects how once his uncle told him, “Why did you clean the house, you are not a girl”. Building life skills have empowered Asif to be aware and critically gauge what is right and what is wrong, form his own opinion, and decide for himself.
This is a journey we are taking to empower every child of Malwani to become problem solvers and leaders of tomorrow; we create opportunities for children, youth, and adults to develop life-skills toward driving this change.
