Makkala Jagriti is a Bangalore based NGO working with children from marginalised communities in Karnataka since 2003. We presently work with 18000+ children and youth in 5 districts of Karnataka. 

We at Makkala Jagriti are in the constant pursuit to support and stand by the communities we work with, especially during times of crisis. As a response to the Covid-19 crisis, our first step was to support the communities with essential needs (rations) in collaboration with many donors, wonderful partners and the government agencies. To the best of our abilities we also provided food and water to stranded migrants and those taking the long journey home.

At our core, our heart and work lies with children.

Learning and positive socialization are key for the development of children. 

Fortunately, privileged school children are able to catch up with their friends and learning with the aid of technology during the lockdown. 

Children going to govt. schools on the other hand, not only have had to endure absolute uncertainty of their livelihood but also lose out on learning as access to technology and internet is limited. 

In order to aid and facilitate the continuation of learning with no school or reduced school hours, we have developed a learning kit (workbook, notebook, stationary etc) that we wish to provide to all the children we work with across the state.

The workbook consists of activities that caters to the development of their language, creativity, emotional and physical well being. It also designed to help parents contribute to the learning of their children irrespective of their educational background.

Our team has been reaching out to over 10,000 children that we work with via phone to check on them and understand their situation. Our hearts have gone into to making this workbook, we miss our children in classroom and all the happiness they bring. This is our effort to help them stay positively engaged and grow even during this uncertain time.
