My father was diagnosed from Mucormycosis (deadly black fungal infection) on 3rd May (one of the first few cases diagnosed in Panipat) few days after surviving from Covid19. After initial surgery at Panipat, we had to shift him to Artemis Hospital, Gurgaon due to criticality of his deteriorating condition and unavailibility of injections elsewhere (Liposomal Amphotericin B needed 7-8 vials per day). He has undergone 3 more surgeries here and another surgery is scheduled next week. His left eye, cheek bone, jaw and pallete has been removed as they were contaminated with fungus. Please note any part where this fungus spreads needs to be removed surgically. Doctors need to keep doing surgeries every alternate week to check and remove newly infected parts. Although his condition is stable but the treatment (where injections alone cost Rs. 60,000 per day) needs to continue for another 4-6 weeks for controlling the recurring fungal infection and then further 3 to 6 months of medication at home. The estimated cost of treatment is around Rs. 48 lacs majorly due to the cost of injections (Rs. 60,000 per day) being used for treatment which will continue during home treatment as well for curing the infection that has reached in brain. Doctors have tried other low cost injections, but that is severely impacting his kidneys. Total expenditure till date has been Rs. 23 lacs (Rs. 17 lacs at Artemis and rest at Panipat inc. cost of injections sourced on my own) out of which Rs. 8 lacs have been mitigated by insurance and rest I alongwith my family have managed after exhausting all our savings and taking help from all possible friends and relatives. My family is putting their best efforts to fight this deadly disease with grace and dignity. However given it's unpredictable nature and exorbitant expenses, we are now in very difficult situation where we need additional financial support for keeping my father alive.
