Making crochet toys and cozy cardigans had always been a dream of mine. For years, I spent hours watching tutorials, wishing I had the courage to start. That courage came in a simple school workshop where a warm, patient teacher and a single crochet hook changed everything.
From my first stitch to countless unravelled projects, I slowly gained confidence. When I finished my first piece, I gifted it to friends and family and their smiles made me realize that handmade creations carry love and care that store-bought items can’t match.
One day, a conversation at home sparked an idea. She told me that many women in our community wanted to learn crochet but didn’t have guidance or opportunity. That’s how “A Stitch For A Smile” was born.

Through this initiative:
• I teach women from my locality including students, homemakers, and women from lower-income backgrounds to crochet.
• I provide materials, guidance, and mentorship so they can transform yarn into adorable stuffed toys.
• These women not only gain a new skill but also earn a fair income for their effort.
Once crafted, these toys are donated to children at CanKids, a non-profit supporting children battling cancer in India. For many of these young ones, a handmade toy isn’t just a gift, it's a piece of normalcy, reminding them of the joys of their childhood and offering hope.
Seeing their eyes sparkle and laughter fill the room, I realized our mission had come full circle. Every stitch we make brings two smiles - one to the woman crafting it, and one to the child receiving it.
