There is no zero-emission solution to the soft plastic waste that is popularly. This innovation will stop the plastic waste from entering the environment on one hand and providing low cost raw material for sturdy construction on the other. Additionally, making the bottlebricks can also be a source of income for many. It is important to remunerate the underprivileged sections of the community who are the major workforce towards waste management.
Each location within the campaign will have a goal will to tap minimum of 500kg of plastic which will be converted into minimum 1500 bottlebricks (minimum 500 bottlebricks/ 250kg of plastic up-cycled from each location). This calculation is made considering the standard 1 litre plastic bottles. Finally, a, sustainable construction within the respective community(s) location itself will be done using the bottlebricks by taking the labour help from the local daily masons.
The donors for this campaign will be involved in bringing about a cleaner, greener and sustainable environment and be a part of the global effort to manage one of the biggest environmental issue i.e the plastic waste. Also, they will be engaged in creation of sustainable employment fir those sections of the society who are struggling to be financial independent for better health and well being. They will be both partaking in reducing carbon footprint at a massive scale as well as rejoice better health and environment from its result.
The cost of making each brick is INR 20 which will go the SHG women. The cost of plastic to make each brick will be INR 10 in which 500g of plastic will be procured by mobilizing the local rag pickers of the respective communities. INR 10 will be kept for logistics, inspection and quality check of per brick. INR 8 per bottle will be allotted for the mason for the construction work. Therefore, the total cost of each brick will be INR 48.
