A mere contribution of at least Rs. 2000 (INR) will help a type-one diabetic child afford and access life-giving insulin for an entire month.

For thousands of underprivileged children in India, a vial of insulin determines whether they live or die. Insulin, a life-saving medication discovered over a century ago, was meant to be accessible to all. Yet today, due to Big Pharma’s monopoly, insulin prices remain artificially inflated, making it unaffordable for families struggling to make ends meet.

The Harsh Reality

Managing type 1 diabetes in India costs over ₹35,000 per year, an impossible sum for many families. Without financial support, children are forced to ration insulin, reuse syringes, and skip essential glucose monitoring, leading to severe health complications. Many lack access to refrigeration, forcing them to store insulin in unreliable conditions. The financial and emotional burden leaves these children and their families in a constant state of fear and distress.

Project Surya:

Project Surya was founded to bridge the gap in healthcare access for underprivileged type 1 diabetic children. The initiative was inspired by its founder, Divaa Uthkarsha, whose younger brother, Surya, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 10. While Surya had access to essential diabetes management resources, thousands of other children did not.

Project Surya follows a three-pronged approach:

✅ Awareness – Educating communities on type 1 diabetes management.

✅ Advocacy – Fighting for policy changes and affordable access to insulin.

✅ Funding – Providing insulin, glucose monitors, and essential supplies to underprivileged children.

Through collaborations with Samatvam Foundation, the Jnana Sanjeevini Trust (DISHA program), Karnataka Institute of Endocrinology and Research, 1M1B Foundation, and WeServe Foundation, Project Surya has impacted 450,000 lives, directly supporting 2,100 children by distributing 8,000 vials of insulin.

How You Can Help

This Milaap fundraiser aims to provide insulin pens, glucose strips, needles and syringes, free medical health camps and tests to underprivileged type 1 diabetic children in India.

➡️ ₹2,000 can support a child with insulin for an entire month.

➡️ ₹3,000 covers insulin, syringes, and glucose monitoring for a month.

➡️ Every contribution, no matter how small, saves a life.

No child should have to choose between eating a meal or affording their insulin. No parent should have to watch their child suffer due to a system that prioritizes profit over lives.

With every donation, one life is sweetened.
