Empower a child. Enable a Dream.

Seema and Lata (Name changed) were two 10 yr old girls we met at one of our session on stress management. The girls found  the courage to tell us how stressful it was for them to go through the days when they had their subject lesson with a particular teacher. The reason? The teacher would not miss an opportunity to touch them inappropriately. While the girls did muster the courage to inform the senior people of the school and the required action was taken, what was evident was their difficulty of recovering from this experience.

Sai, (name changed) a child who had learning issues, which was a big cause of his low self - esteem, is now able to express himself and communicate better. The reason? Because, our teacher changemaker identified the need for social – emotional development and conducted sessions with us to help the child believe in himself.

And these are just two of the many realities for young children from low income communities.

Every year that we’ve been on the ground looking at ways and means to integrate social-emotional development into classroom environments, we’ve come across a few stark realities – particularly for those children in low income communities and their difficulties in getting better adulthood outcomes due to lack of nurturing environments and motivated teachers in their schools.

This year it’s everything on the line for us – 3500 children and 130 teachers are part of our programs this year, and we are going all out to ensure that this is done in the most professional manner so that these children have a better shot at their future.

Both Gayatri and myself are committed to making this happen – but we also know that we will need lots of support from people around us who believe that every child has the right to realize one’s own potential as a human being.

We’ve put in everything we’ve got (including our careers) in this, and we are now at the stage where we need to raise funds for these programs to run efficiently. For each school, we have enrolled 200 children and 10 teachers in the program, and it costs us Rs. 2.5 lakhs (Rs. 7000 per teacher, Rs. 900 per child) per year to support a school.

We invite you to be part of our work this year – by becoming a donor, you will not only support us financially, but also become part of our world – and hopefully part of a world that cares about bringing up children to become emotionally intelligent and socially responsible citizens.

Dear Supporters,

In the last couple of weeks, we have been visiting all our schools, and having focused interactions with the teachers on how to use our program toolkits to enable social-emotional development in the classroom. What has been very encouraging for us is the interest that these teachers have to develop themselves and their own skills, as also their interest in transforming children for better outcomes! What more do we need from teachers!

Here's a short video of Jyoti from our team taking the teachers through the toolkit:
Teacher orientation on using the social-emotional development toolkit

Well, we've still got a long way to go in terms of getting all the funds needed to deliver these programs effectively - do share these updates and our campaign with your friends, family and anyone else who you think could support this work!

Thank you for all the love and support.
