My name is Nayanika Chattopadhyay, and I am raising funds for my father, Kunal Chattopadhyay, a 66-year-old retired professor who is battling an aggressive form of cancer — Dual Primary High-Grade TCC Urothelial and Prostatic Carcinoma.
His medical journey began in early 2025, when he developed issues in the prostate region. He initially underwent a Laser BNI procedure in May 2025, costing around ₹2 lakhs (covered by insurance). However, biopsy reports soon revealed the presence of this cancer.
In July 2025, he underwent a radical cystoprostectomy, which, along with pre- and post-operative expenses, cost approximately ₹6.5 lakhs.
During this period, our insurance claim was rejected due to a dispute, which we are still trying to resolve. Unfortunately, further claims were also denied, and the policy was cancelled by the insurance company, leaving us to cover all expenses ourselves.
About a month after surgery, my father started chemotherapy, which cost around ₹5 lakhs, including daycare, medical charges, and ancillary expenses. We hoped this would control the disease. Unfortunately, within one month of completing chemotherapy, a CT-guided PET scan revealed a pelvic lesion. Further biopsy and IHC tests confirmed that the urothelial cancer had returned.
Due to the aggressive nature of the disease, his age, and early relapse, doctors have recommended immunotherapy, which is currently the most effective treatment option available.
He is now receiving a combination of Enfortumab Vedotin and Pembrolizumab injections. In the last two months, he has completed 1 full cycle and Day 1 of Cycle 2, costing approximately ₹8.5 lakhs. Doctors have advised that he will need to continue this combined immunotherapy for at least one year (a total of 18 cycles).
So far, we have been managing the expenses through our life savings, my father’s retirement funds, and loans from friends and family
However, given the lapse in my father’s insurance coverage and the extremely high cost of ongoing immunotherapy, these resources will soon be exhausted.
To continue the remaining treatment cycles and give my father a real chance at recovery, we urgently need ₹62 lakhs.
My father has spent his life teaching and mentoring students. In addition, he has dedicated his life to political and social activism, which brings no personal profit but fights for social justice. Even after retirement, he hoped to dedicate time to writing and publishing his literary works and pursuing the same sort of activism. It is heartbreaking to see such a vibrant and kind person now fighting this difficult battle.
I humbly request your support during this critical time. Any contribution, no matter how small, will help us continue his treatment. Please also consider sharing this fundraiser with others.
Your generosity, kindness, and prayers can help us continue this fight and bring hope back into our family.
Thank you.
